Barber Motorsports Park [Birmingham, AL] will host the Porsche 250, round 3, of the Rolex Grand-Am series this weekend. After finishing 3rd at Homestead Miami last month, the Dempsey Racing/JG Sport/Team Seattle team is looking to build on that momentum and deliver a good result at this weekend’s race.
The podium finish in Miami was slightly ahead of expectations but the signs are there that the team is really starting to gel and future points and podium wins are within reach. “I’m optimistic heading into Barber”, Said James Gue, driver, car No.41. “I think the whole Dempsey Racing/JG Sport/Team Seattle team is really coming together well, and we certainly couldn’t do it without the help and support of John and Jeri Graham and Global Diving.”
The Mazda RX-8 is continuing to demonstrate good pace. At Daytona the car was quick (quickest in pre-season and pre race practice) but struggled in the race with mechanical issues. The result at Miami validated that the car is not only quick but also reliable and in the hands of drivers James Gue and Leh Keen, capable of delivering great results.
Both Leh and James are excited to be at Barber this weekend, the course being one of the drivers favorites for the season. “I’m always excited to driver at Barber,” commented Leh Keen, driver car No.41, “the track is as beautiful as it gets and the Mazda should do well here, podium chances are good”. James Gue considers this his home track: “I’ve had a lot success at there in the past; I won the Continental Tire race last year and I teach here at the Porsche Sport Driver School 40-50 days a year”. Between Miami and Barber, both James and Leh have taken opportunities to get valuable seat time, both competing in the 12 Hours of Sebring. Leh, who won the GTC class, also raced at the Nurburgring in Germany finishing 2nd in class.
