Don Kitch Jr. of the Racer’s Group Team Seattle, arrived at Daytona yesterday in preparation for what will be his eighth straight Rolex competition. Despite his years of experience in the endurance-challenging event, Kitch claims that the race remains as demanding as ever for him and his team.

“Our cars have decals on the dashboards that say, ‘Don’t hit, don’t get hit, make no mistake and drive to daylight.’ [Drivers] need to be physically fit. It’s a long, hard haul.

“Our plan is to let the race come back to us on Sunday. That seems to work well for us. We’ll see where we are on Sunday. That’s what we did last year, and at six o’clock in the morning we had the strongest motor in the field,” said Kitch, whose Racer’s Group team finished 17th overall and 6th in the GTU class in the 2000 event. “We had our way with everyone and went right to the front. If we stay on our game plan and don’t deviate from that, I think we’ll be there [in 2001].”
