Daytona Race Facts

The 46th annual Rolex 24 at Daytona will take place January 26-27th, 2008 in Daytona, Florida at one of the most famous and daunting race tracks in the world, Daytona International Speedway.

The Rolex 24 at Daytona is the premier sports car racing event in North America and one of the three races that have traditionally made up the "triple-crown" of worldwide sports car racing, the others being the 24 hours at Le Mans, France, and the 12 hours of Sebring.

This grueling race is a test of both man and machine. Eighty purpose-built and production-based race cars from all over the world, representing Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, and Mazda compete for this world famous title.

Track length:
3.5 miles, 11 turn, banked as much as 31 degrees.
Drivers shift 15 times per lap
Average speed of over 100 mph, top speed of over 180 mph
Race distance is about 700 laps or 2,450 miles- the distance from Seattle to Houston. 15 pit stops
During the 24 hours, each car will consume 60 tires, 1 set of brake pads, and over 500 gallons of gas
