“Congratulations to Team Seattle on a great fundraising effort this weekend . . . They’ve had a sterling record in raising money for the Children’s Hospital of Seattle.”

--ESPN2 announcer

How does the Team Seattle fundraiser benefit other Children's Hospital's in our nation?

Our Partnership with Children's -
In 2005, Team Seattle embarked on an ambitious endeavor - pledging $2 million to Children's Cardiac Intensive Care Unit! This incredibly generous action started with the establishment of the Team Seattle Endowment for Excellence in Cardiac Intensive Care, supporting clinical and research activities for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at the hospital. To acknowledge the team's outstanding commitment, Children's Hospital has named the CICU after Kami Renee Sutton, an inspiring heart patient and racing enthusiast that has participated in the team's efforts since the beginning.

Children's CICU is a world-class facility that needs the support of the community to continue to provide excellent care to all children in need of their services. Did you know that heart disease is the most common birth defect among U.S. infants? It affects one in every 100 newborn babies, and yet very few heart centers around the world have a dedicated CICU. We are fortunate to say that Children's cardiac program, including the CICU is unmatched in the region offering the latest in life-saving equipment, a highly skilled medical staff and a family-centered care approach to all that they do.

Team Seattle is racing toward the finish of their $2 million CICU pledge, taking place from 2005-2008. Thank you to our supporters for your past contributions and we hope that you will all join us in this effort for Children's CICU.

Past Efforts
Income from the Team Seattle Endowment goes directly to support cardiac research, education and training at Seattle's Children's Hospital. That support helps other children's hospitals across the U.S. indirectly in a number of ways:

Many of the medical students, residents and fellows who are trained in our Heart Center go on to practice and teach in other pediatric hospitals and academic medical centers, thus spreading the excellent research and clinical practice they learn here.

All of the cardiac research conducted here is for public domain. Our researchers publish in their professional journals and the best known medical journals, e.g. Journal of American Medical Association and the New England Journal of Medicine.

Our cardiac physician scientists also present at national and international conferences the results of their basic and clinical research thus helping physicians and their patients elsewhere.

Our cardiac patients are included in clinical trials that are part of national/international studies that include a number of children's hospitals outside our region.

These are just a few examples of how Team Seattle's Endowment at Children's Hospital in Seattle helps support cardiac research and clinical care essentially throughout the worl
d.

As you can see your sponsorship and media coverage really does make a world of difference to all children.
